If I were to sell my 4Runner for, say $4500 or so, would any of you be interested? Here’s the deal - I want to look at the Mercedes wagon I posted about earlier, but my parents still haven’t sold our old house and as long as we still have the house they won’t let me look at anything else unless the 4Runner is sold. I don't want to be without a car temporarily, so if one of you guys was even willing to make the trek to Memphis to buy it, I might could see the Mercedes. I’ll eventually put it on craigslist, but I wanted to give you guys first dibs, and I want to make sure it ends up in good hands. For reference, it’s a bone stock 1995 4Runner SR5 4WD. The 3VZ-E was replaced at 214k or so and the car currently has around 224k on it. It’s cosmetically average, but it runs strong and it’s a great platform for a build or project. Price would be negotiable but we purchased the car for $3800 in 2012 and the engine replacement cost $1600 so $4500 is kinda underselling it. Let me know if you’d be genuinely interested and maybe I can get the ball rolling with the Mercedes.

Price isn't terrible for that year. New engine is a plus. Hope she sells

For one thing, I think the ad has to actually be listed somewhere, and I'm not sure how one submits a car anyway. Besides, I'm still not totally sure I'm willing to sell yet.

How solid is she? I’m in Nashville, but Memphis raised. Tired of my Disco sometimes.

Post an ad on CL or one of the Toyota forums. Post a lot of pictures of literally everything, under hood, interior, undercarriage, etc. However, don’t use filters when you post the pictures, you can’t see anything.

I don't think you're going to get $4500 out of it. 93-95 4runners by me at least typically go under $2,500. There is one for sale for $4,000, but it has an indicated 80k miles.

The fact the the engine is very new should be helpful though.

Nah, I’ve been browsing locally for a 4x4 for winter.

The e39 has some issues..., driveable but its not mint.

She’s bone stock but will handle some pretty tough stuff. 150hp/180tq doesn’t sound like a lot (it isn’t) but it gets the job done. It’s just as happy mud plugging as it is cruising at 70 on the highway. My main reason for wanting to get something else is the gas mileage. I usually get around 10 when only driving in the city, but have gotten up to 13 with evenly mixed driving. There are occasional creaks and squeaks, but I’m pretty sure that’s to be expected for most any car of this era.

How many miles does the engine have on it? I presume you guys didn’t put a new crate engine in it. If the new engine was significantly fewer miles you may get a bump, but a vehicle offered for sale is assumed to have a functional engine. Instead of elevating the value of a $3800 car, you restored the value of a $1,000 rolling shell (vehicle with blown engine).

E39 540i is up there on my dream cars list. Good luck with the search!

It was a crate 3VZ as far as I know. After all it was $1600 so it should've been.

For $1,600 installed you got a remanufactured engine or even a used. The clean long blocks seems to run $1800-2200 for just the engine. Installation would easily be a few hundred on top of that at minimum.

I meant for just the engine. The bill for the installation was more.

I would look up the invoice, unless your guy found a great deal, you likely got a remanufactured at best. Note I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. For a 1995, no one is paying top dollar for a fresh OEM engine.

At the end of the day and without seeing better pictures or knowing your market area, I would assume you could probably get $3,000-$3,500 based on your description.

There is a pretty huge market for stuff like this in Memphis, so I should have no problem selling it. And come to think of it was a high-quality remanufacture because we got the shipping cost waived since we shipped the old engine back.

In my area, you could probably get like $2,500 for what you’re describing.

There’s other N130s here that are 2WD that have sold for more. Decently big market for them here.

I’d possibly be interested, but I won’t have new car money for a little longer (still recovering from buying my house).
